Paying College Athletes
The NCAA have been recognizing student-athletes as amateurs for a very long time now. They really want to keep the NCAA traditional, which means they don't want to start paying the athletes as if they were professionals.

Not everyone associated with the NCAA feel that they should keep the student-athletes from recieving a pay and changing the amatuer status.
The NCAA are involved with a lot of big companies like Coke, UPS, Capital One Bank,etc. They are producing a lot of revenue. Even with producing a lot of money, the NCAA still find excuses about why they can't pay college athletes.
Being An Amateur
Amateurism has been involved in the NCAA for many years. The NCAA believes that student-athletes should have the amateur status as longs as they are in college because they have to prepare themselves for the professional leagues.
